It’s time to nibble on some beach and poolside fare

You have probably noticed a large glass structure right across Al Fattan Towers on the Jumeirah Beach Residence strip. That’s the swanky newly-launched Rixos Premium Dubai. On one end, it seems similar to any conventional “Dubai hotel”.

The beachfront side, however, boasts an infinity pool that stretches from one end to the other, with restaurants flanking it. Azure was our destination of choice for dinner, offering poolside snacks for those who want to avail the day pass, or merely dine al fresco while enjoying the cool breeze. A meal at the Rixos JBR comprises of plenty of seafood and vegetables, making it a great option for pescatarians and vegans too. Expect plush lounge chairs, and neutral-hue décor coupled with nautical pops of colour and stunning views all around.

When salt and pepper squid graces a menu for appetisers, it’s always a top choice to test against the city’s rest. These were crisp, soft on the inside and showed no signs of grease – paired beautifully with the creamy and tart yoghurt lime aioli. Up next was an incredibly juicy and fresh Azure Salad, the kind you wish you could recreate daily.

Salmon, tuna and hamachi were mixed with radicchio, fennel, onion and beetroot, topped with and a citrus charred orange vinaigrette that allowed the vegetables and fish to marry flawlessly. For something a bit more substantial, we dived into a meaty baked salmon fillet sandwich served with pickled cucumber and wasabi coleslaw.

Thankfully, the salmon was done just right – not too soft, or too done and rubber-like. Sushi-lovers have plenty of options to choose from, from maki rolls with crispy breaded king prawns and mango chutney, to spicy tuna and Alaskan crab meat with orange tobiko mayo. After a heavy meal, which didn’t seem like it as we nibbled our way through courses, it only made sense to opt for a light fruit and coconut ice dessert. Litchi, melon, papaya, and coconut slivers complemented spiced pineapple ice, grass jelly and evaporated milk. The ingredient list may sound heavy, but trust us, it’s refreshing and nutritious.

Need to know: Pool and beach passes are available for Dhs300 on weekdays (inclusive of a Dhs200 F&B voucher) and Dhs400 on weekends with the same voucher. The lounge is open daily (from 11am) and offers shisha service. Call + 971 52 777 9472
