Two new Bulgari Octo watches were launched at the Frankfurt Motor Show
The Frankfurt Motor Show is full of wonderful surprises – most of them on four wheels. One of this year’s biggest launches was the $2.7 million Mercedes-AMG Project One that will bring F1 technology straight from the track to your garage. But one release created quite a stir among watch aficionados attending the auto show. Italian carmaker Maserati unveiled two new timepieces that were part of a collaboration with fellow Italian fashion major, Bulgari.
The Bulgari Octo Maserati Mono-Retro GranLusso is cased in a 18k gold case and a GranSport is made from DLC-treated black steel. Beneath the hood of both these watches is an in-house automatic movement. There is a single hand on the dial with a retrograde and jumping hour function worked into its construction. The dial design resembles a Maserati’s analogue rev counter. Located at 3 o’clock isn’t the date, but the hour display.
The automatic movement has a power reserve of 42 hours and is finished with the Côte de Genève pattern. The smoked sapphire crystal allows you to gaze at the movement, although you might struggle to get a clear view given the carmaker’s large trident logo spread across the crystal. Not that we’re complaining.
This isn’t the first time Maserati and Bulgari have collaborated on a timepiece – they’ve been doing so for the last five years. This new Octo Maserati Mono-Retro GranSport is priced at $12,800 and is available to the first 30 buyers of the Maserati GranTurismo and Maserati GranCabrio. The Octo Maserati Mono-Retro GranLusso is priced at $30,800 and this luxury timepiece can be bought by non-Maserati owners as well. Although, we imagine that pulling up to a Bulgari boutique in Maserati will help your chances of scoring this new timepiece.
