Three tried-and-tested experiences to undertake this month in Dubai
Where? The Gym, Dubai
Recommended for: Male and female workforce within DIFC and Business Bay looking for a personal trainer
The Experience: Maxine and her husband Hudd Russell, Personal Trainers and founders of The Gym, have their tailor-made workouts down to a tee. Enter the gym (on Level 1) and you will instantly feel as though you’ve entered Roberto Cavalli’s home, with velvet burgundy couches and a zebra print rug in the lounge area of the reception. Take another step and you will instantly feel at home, with the Muscle Bar replicating an expansive open kitchen and dining space, where delish nutritious meals, smoothies and protein shakes are prepared. Changing rooms showcase a monochrome scheme with touches of gold seen in fixtures, L’Occitane shower products, plush towels and literally everything you’d have at home, from a blow-dryer to perfume and lotion. The gym is split into sections, an obstacle area for HIIT-style sessions, weights and leg machines. After a rigorous workout of six 30 second’ exercises, Maxine commented on my endurance and form, making me feel slightly better having been out of the gym for over six months. Quench your thirst with a highly-recommended and flavoursome strawberry cheesecake protein shake.

Where? The Ritz Carlton Spa, DIFC
Recommended for: Jaded travelers, business men and ladies looking to recoup after a strenuous week
The Experience: Minimalist oceanic-themed décor, art fixtures from Opera Gallery and an infusion of fresh aquatic aromas greet you at this wellbeing centre, nestled within Dubai’s financial hub. After and perusing the extensive spa menu, we picked The Desert Reviver, a 120-minutes treatment inspired by the City of Dubai. Once you make your way to the calm, dimly-lit room, take your pick from two scented oils – we chose a reviving concoction with notes of citrus and frankincense. To eliminate dead skin cells, the therapist scrubbed sand, all over the body in swift circular motions. The exfoliation stimulates blood flow, promotes cell regeneration and accelerates toxin elimination, leaving you energized. A quick shower, back to the massage bed and into a state of lull we went, with the hot stone massage emulating the heat of Dubai. We picked medium to hard pressure to ease stress and tension on the upper back, shoulders and lower calves, stretching tired, weary muscles throughout. By the end of our treatment, a cooling balm was applied all over the body to keep oils intact, leaving skin moisturised and supple. If you crave that ache-free feeling, with an instant sensation of improved circulation and awakened senses, look no further than this treatment. Relax back with a cup of hot tea and dried fruit, or head to the private whirlpool bath and steam rooms to make the most of the facilities after the treatment. You can also end with a few laps at the indoor pool, however, you will most likely want to head home for a restful sleep as you cling on to that state of bliss.

Best for? Fuss-free haircut for gents
Need to know: Walk into this vintage salon clad with a wooden wallpaper and retro-style barber chairs that exude masculinity. Having had a cut about a few weeks ago, I wasn’t sure what to expect? However, well-trained barbers are on hand to make sure your hair transformations aren’t as unnerving as they usually are. A bad hair-job done with bits and bobs sticking out came to light, with the barber cutting off a bulge that stuck out from the back. Only scissors were used to cut, as trimmers don’t do the same job. A quick wash, blow dry and application of Vitamen hair wax, and I was ready to go.
