This unique dining concept from JA Resorts & Hotels, set along the creek at Al Seef, is truly impressive, steering away from the predictable cheesy dinner cruises that can make dining out at sea somewhat of a dreadful experience
Bateaux Dubai certainly does not feel like just any other dinner cruise. To begin with, it’s absolutely gorgeous. The glass-encased cruise is similar to a floating restaurant with each table offering spectacular views of old and new Dubai. Sit by the window or on the elevated central podium offering a premium vantage point. The two-and-a-half-hours cruise eases guests into their dining experience with a structured three-course set menu that allows for sightseeing on the deck in between. The menu comprises six seafood starters featuring our selection; the scallop and saffron risotto with crushed peas, asparagus and a light parmesan foam; and the avocado and prawn with curried crème fraiche, wasabi mayonnaise and beetroot. The evening soon changes direction and ambience with a pianist adding in a bit of romanticism to the setting. For entrées, my dining partner chose the roasted barbaric duck cooked pink and to perfection. This tasted sublime with the accompanying confit sweet potatoes, mandarin, and blackberry shiraz jus. Being a man with carnivorous tendencies, I had the lamb three ways; presented as a slow-roasted cutlet, herb-crusted loin and lamb chop, served with polenta and goat cheese tart. Dessert was a unanimous decision where we both chose chocolate fondant with a gooey centre paired with brownie chunks and a peanut butter ice cream – a memorable way to end the meal.
JA Bateaux is certainly a way to experience Dubai in style and one that should not be missed.
